A need for transparency in recruitment 

 

Let’s take you back to 2009. The world was coming out of recession, and the job market was getting hotter. After three years of a dwindling market, staffing firms were beginning to bounce back. 

A big part of this growth was due to firms adopting new services and repositioning their company to attract new clientele. However, what stayed the same was recruiters still hiding the candidates from the clients. Recruiters would not show the candidates or their qualifications to their clients. A client had to agree to a first interview to see the candidate’s information. Many find this inefficient and a waste of time if the candidate is not a correct fit. Hiring managers were getting sick of the recruitment industry being stuck in old and opaque ways. Matchfield’s founder, Jeremy Henderson, wanted to change that. 

The advent of the iPhone and different app technology from 2007 to 2009 drove the need for more automated and independent services. People didn’t want to rely on a third party anymore to get their services done. A demand for accelerated recruitment was starting to bubble. Could sourcing high qualified candidates with a few clicks of your fingers be possible during this time? The initial idea of Matchfield was a recruitment app that would deliver candidate profiles inside a curated dashboard to clients. 

Unfortunately, like the iPhone, the market was not quite ripe enough in 2009 for Matchfield to achieve the attention it needed. Matchfield was then put on the back burner of development. 

Until…

 

An increase in digital and recruiting apps 

 

Let’s jump forward to 2016. Suddenly, the iPhone and its apps were dominating the market. Industries were becoming further automated, and third parties were being left behind. The growth of digital and recruitment apps increased the need for further trust and transparency in the recruitment process. 

Hiring firms were beginning to look at creating recruitment apps, and Matchfield needed to act fast. The market aligned with Matchfield’s mission, and thus, Matchfield’s official product was born. 

Over time, Matchfield caught the attention of the Ian Martin Group, one of North America’s leading employment agencies. Matchfield’s transparency and innovative design were appealing to Ian Martin Group. Matchfield was then acquired as a subsidiary with them. Being with The Ian Martin Group allows us to grow our product while remaining true to our initial mission of being a transparent hiring web app. 

However, creating an app that resembled a job board was not Matchfield’s goal. We wanted to keep you and your professional needs in mind when hiring. We asked ourselves: how could we keep the speed and agility of a job board while still keeping the skill and expertise of a recruiter?
